For recording only, you could use two alternatives to OBS - if you're still having issues that is.
If you're using an AMD card, you can use AMD Relive - prepackaged with the Radeon Driver software. For Nvidia you can use shadowplay. Both are lightweight and will make use of your GPU processing, taking the stress off your CPU. They come with a in-game overlay which you can quickly switch to focus to start/stop recording. I use Relive on Windows 10, and have had no issues with it so far. (Disable Xbox DVR on Windows 10, it can gain you a few more frames) -
