Donating for In-Game Money // Alternatives
#1
This is a discussion about money-packs and their impact on the economy.

I think that we should look to minimize the amount of cash that is generated from thin air and while I've long been vocal against money-packs and pushed to remove them in the past, I also know they are a significantly important aspect that will ensure the longevity of this community and the longevity of a certain somebodies yacht.

That being said, what are some possible solutions?

Proposed System - Token System

Instead of donating for in-game money directly, individuals will be gifted 'X' amount of tokens for their small donation. These tokens will be able to be used on an in-game server casino system, possible a physical entity, that can potentially reward them with in-game money, random item(s), week membership pass, itemized perks (ie. item that when used increases salary for 'X' amount of hours/days), or potentially even land you earning absolutely nothing.

While this may introduce some money back into the economy it will certainly bring in less as individuals may be getting items which will not be generating in-game money. Instead, they can choose to either keep their items or sell them to others which in the long run will reduce the amount of generated money but also increase player interaction and use of the Marketplace.

I think this system has a lot of areas to expand upon - especially itemized perks and being able to offer a # of unique aspects that will offer more than the current system does while being less impactful.

Additionally, these itemized perks will be items that can be traded/sold to others thus creating a player market.

I really like the idea of the token system - if implemented well, it could really entice people to donate.

Although people donate already for the other factors like suits, a token system would make people feel that little bit better about donating. At the end of the day, that's real money being spent, and I work for my money, and while yes it is technically a donation, having something extra on top would also be beneficial, and fun, which we seem to be missing a lot of.

What I like about this idea is that it has a way to connect individuals and by allowing even the tokens to be traded themselves // it offers a way for individuals who might not be able to donate real money to be able to pay a premium to acquire tokens in exchange for their in-game money.

It's similar to the idea of spending in-game money to purchase a membership plan from someone that has the means to pay. Player driven prices based on supply and demand.

It also offers a way to introduce unique/rare items into the economy such as clothing items and accessories that have no pre-defined value other than what players deem them to be worth.

Reward players with (1) token as they achieve certain Milestones. For example, their first RP Point or when they surpass 'X' amount of hours. It'll encourage players both new and old to continue to play on FL and that their commitment is appreciated.

I always thought that there should be more ways of donation that comes with different perks for different prices.

I like being able to spend 40 or so quid to become a millionaire.

You should be able to exchange for certain items from your choosing. For example an aggressive player may want health items, ammo weapons. Passive players may want suits. Also some specific items to people who buy moneypacks.

Yeah, maybe introduce like weapons skins and cool, expensive knife skins?? Maybe you could win jackets that sell for thousands irl money??

OT: Like the idea of introducing something like this. Good starter idea at least!

Personally, I feel like players should know what they are buying and they should be able to buy what they want with their 2.50$. In the case of money packs, they know that the 2.50$ will give them 50 000$ in-game money, but a casino/loot box system where you earn random items is very different. In general, I have always been against loot boxes, and I don't think players should gamble for a chance to win something that they want.

I think money packs work well enough currently, but the token idea does sound interesting, though it would be a sort of "premium currency". Perhaps players could choose what to buy with the tokens. They could buy in-game cash, donator time, items etc. Maybe there could be a free way to earn these credits somehow, like reaching a milestone or something.

Though one way to integrate the loot box system to normal money packs could be to have it as a sort of "bonus item" you earn when buying money packs and donator, as a sort of extra reward on top of the normal money packs.

But at least now, I think the normal money pack system without any premium currency or loot boxes works and doesn't need to be fixed that badly. But it is a very interesting idea, I have to say.
