There are good things and bad things, Arabs have been largely associated with Islam - and the culture that religion brings with it. In other words; not the free-thinking western scientific-rationalism - almost the opposite: religious fanaticism, totalitarianism and idealism. But one should not forget that Arabia once was the center of knowledge of the world, during its golden age, then Baghdad was sacked by the Mongol Empire during the crusades. Now more recently, parts of the Arab world have become very rich because of oil.

'Arab' constitutes such a large group of people - over a large area, so one description will likely not fit all.
