Casino dupes causing server instability.
#1
Greetings, recently I have experienced that most of the casino dupes that are currently being happily distributed between players are causing somewhat severe server instability.

The servers simply can't handle the contraints, entities or whatever it is that causes everyones ping to go from around 100 to 300.

Now I have been trying to gather some evidence to back up my claims, since some people say that it is my computer that can't handle it. Which ofcourse does not make any sense in my head.

Here I have two administrators who have experienced it first hand, Burnett was even forced to remove a dupe because no one was able to drive their cars. I personally think something needs to be done about this, either people need to figure out a way to make their casinos server-friendly or they just need to not use their casino dupes at all.

Spoiler :
Quote:[FL:RP] equal: Have you experienced any lag or interference with the server stability caused by Casino Dupes?

[FL] Burnett: Yes I've experienced lags all the time. I'd say one casino-dupe is fine but no more.
[FL:RP] equal: Thank you.

[FL] Ikaros: I have yes, tho not from everyone but most of them
[FL:RP] equal: Can you elaborate on what have happened when these dupes were placed down?
[FL] Ikaros: well, the server lags
[FL] Ikaros: I have a decent PC but when they place down casinos with constrains and stuff, the server lags

I find it selfish and irritating that few individuals think it is fine for them to ruin the experience for 60+ other players, just because they want to make some easy money.

I'd like this to be kept civil, obviously people are going to claim that their specific dupe does not cause any server instability what so ever, but let's keep it real guys.

So, what is your opinion on this? Have you experienced it by yourselves? Please comment.

I've noticed it happen on V2D before, when the casino is running it cause lag on the server.

Too many people don't know how to properly make a lag-free casino. If you're going to have multiple spinning props or entities, for example a slots machine (4 spinning props, each with 4 markers attached), then you ought to parent everything, which disables physics on the other props and drastically reduces any possible lag. If you're not parenting spinning props then you really shouldn't be building casinos like that. Stick to static poker/blackjack tables and RP experiences.

I think Casino's should undergo an Admin inspection before being placed down and run. The staff member can easily dictate if it's too risky due to server population, check for design flaws like Faustie's point above and stop these people just shotting dupes down and lagging us all like feck.

Nocollide all your spinning parts as well as making sure to parent them like Faustie said. If you cannot master simple Garry's mod building then you shouldn't be allowed to make a casino and you should be warned to fix or remove your casino build.

It shouldn't be such a big problem it just needs to be checked over by a staff member who knows what he's looking at.

I've had no problems with the spinning wheel dupe at all, the only casinos I encounter a problem is with the motor thing and the box flings everywhere causing awful lag.
