To be honest, I don't think it should be a permanent ban. However a long ban.

and only if it was a mistake will the suspension ever be overturned.

Just out of curiosity, does this apply to every ban, or just to bans over scamming?

I say it specifically for scamming because we don't follow a 'oh we'll forgive you' approach to that.

If you're banned, and typically for a long time, then further down the line appeals have been approved as an act of good will or for a change in the player. However, bans are only ever actually removed (i.e no longer shown on the list) if the ban was found to be a genuine mistake and should never have been issued.
