Desperatly needing protection
#1
Ok so my Norton has ran out of service, so I Quickly installed a 30 day trial to Avg 2014 until I could get to the shops to pick up a new one.
however, this product does not come with a firewall, which worries me. FL as safe as it is is prone to Ddos and hackers, I really don't want this PC to get hacked or anything... so I was wondering if there is any free firewall I can download to tide me over?

Just download avira or something, it's a waste of money to buy a license.

I've used AVG (free) for 5 years now, I guess. Never got any virus this one can't handle.
Atleast what I know.

Just set AVG to scan everything that comes to your pc.

I've been using AVG for years - I can't fault it. Click on a link with a virus - blocks the link. I do believe the virus never even reaches your computer? Complicated tech stuff. I've had a few viruses on my computer before, AVG sorted it out for me. Windows firewall should be good enough.

Simple and free.

I use AVG but I often hear people say it is crap. To be honest, a simple free anti-virus is all you need for everyday civilian use. You're hardly a big time hacker or someone of notable import. (Politician etc.)

I've heard that Avast is also a good free option, but I've never used it myself.

For something free go with Comodo and Malwarebytes. Scan with last mentioned if you're worried something got through Comodo.

I use Microsoft security essentials, I believe it comes with windows now(?) and so, of course, it comes with the firewall linked up and everything. It works, I'm not sure what more you'd want to have.

Sincerely,

I can confirm this.
I've purposely put viruses on a bad laptop with avast on it, avast blocked the links and files even if it's already on your PC.
user title was put to "one of the elders" by default, and holy shit does that sound extreme

I've used Avast, Avira and AVG. I prefer them in that order.
