Yeah, has happened to me too.
I tend to visualize the situation as follows: Kids in a toypen with plenty of different toys, but many of the same type.
Then some poor sod tries to take a vacant teddybear when someone else is playing with another teddy.
Engage the butthurt and fighting after the person with the teddy claims he has right to all of them (even when they are not playing with them.)
Could someone please explain to me, what claiming has contributed to the community? I can sure list something, but it's not a very happy list:
- Violent "RP" to curb ANY competitors, no matter how small. Do the clans REALLY see them as a threath? Hell, the claiming people don't usualle even have a "business" of the same type running at the same time to force a shutdown.
- Drama. Needless to say, people blowing up each other's shit will cause this.
- Decline in Original RP. Why bother with anything, if you're just going to have a burning wreck in the end?
Seriously, if this claiming business goes on unregulated, in the worst case scenario, one is not even allowed to pick certain jobs or locations to build to!
The whole business smells like "patent-trolling" to me. To those unfamiliar with the term, here's a quick explanation:
1. A person creates something original.
2. A patent troll-company, with hundereds of patents in it's storage notices that there's something that ever so slightly "infriges their patent".
3. Lawsuit for profit of troll.
The only difference is, that in Fearless the lawsuit part is replaced by Molotovs and automatic weapons, as well as threaths, hostile agents and killing.
All for what? So the "strong" can dominate the "weak". It's not all about the "money" if it is about the money at all. It's all about having an excuse to demonstrate power and gain something while at it.
Needless to say, I'm in support of the removal of these "claims".
Bottom line: We're not miners in a f*cking depleting Goldmine. There will ALWAYS be more money, and inflation is not a real danger in RP. The principle of destroying anyone who attempts to do something similar to you is just plain wrong.
