Why would you like to apply for this position?: I saw an open spot, on a wall outside the BP station. I thought why not join in as an referee?  I have never been in the field before, but I have seen a bunch of marathons before.
Experience with marathons: Never been running myself. But I have seem quite some marathons back in the day. And I know the basics.
