-- Official clarification regarding recent attack --
Dear community,
I'm very pleased to report that these current powerful DDoS attacks against our servers will stop and normal service should be resumed. For the last several days our security team has been conferring with the attacker, who was under the impression that Dig had DDoS'd him, and had some evidence to prove this. Our security team worked with Dig and the attacker - who I shall now refer to as the outside party - to determine whether or not this was true, while at the same time upgrading our servers and firewall. This took so long due to the confusing evidence from both sides, but eventually we noticed some discrepancies and found absolute proof that Dig was not guilty. The outside party stopped his attacks immediately and blocked our IPs so attacks from his service can not reach FL's servers, and we have identified who was responsible for the initial attack against him.
It is very important to note that the outside party had reasonable evidence to assume that Dig was in fact at fault for attacking him - Both the outside party and FL had been fooled by the true suspect, and now that the outside party knows the truth he holds no animosity towards us, nor us to him. He has since helped us to further harden our servers against future attacks.
As I have previously stated, during these attacks we got a major server upgrade. Our dedicated server now has much more powerful hardware and runs on a more secure system, which will be further hardened against possible future attacks. While no defence is absolute, it is likely that we will have less problems with DDoS in the future, and we also have increased capabilities to expand and upgrade our game servers. The server maintenance to the new machine will be finished approximately this week, another announcement thread will be made for this containing the new IPs.
Thank you to everyone who stuck by us and with Dig during this time. Dig was willing to sacrifice his public image in order to allow negotiations and investigations to proceed, and in doing so helped to resolve this situation and protect our servers and community. For that, the entire staff team thank him. It took courage to do what he did.
