I make do with a set of Sennheisers for £30.. Fact is they're designed by an AUDIO company, not a GAMING company, so the sound is godly, far better than any of my friend's expensive gaming gear. If you need a mic just get a standalone mic, they're better quality anyway.
I do have some sexy Harmon Kardon speakers + subwoofers too attached to my computer

I don't think there would be any point me getting a 7.1 headset, when my Audio Card is 5.1
