I have asked this question before but never get a straight answer. I would like one of the moderators to confirm or deny this. Can you issue a search warrant for hearing contraband, even if you do not know where the sound is coming from?

Sure, radioing in for a search warrant is roleplay. Is it not? I want to know if it appropriate to do so if you hear contraband.

The contraband sound has a limited radius, I think it's 5 or 10 meters and was introduced to enable the police to actually detect contraband. If you hear it you have a pretty good idea of where it's coming from.

It's perfectly within the rules for the police to request a search warrant from the president on the matter, of course civilians can't raid for contraband (as i've been told) but they're allowed to call the police and report the suspicion.

It's a fairly well known rule tbh, and there is a whole section of answering questions regarding the rules elsewhere on the forum, which may be more appropriate to get your question answered by a moderator or admin.

Now, let me try to answer your question:

The range for the sound contraband makes isn't far, this should give you a general idea on where the contraband is located. If you are sure about someone owning contraband (ie seeing or hearing contraband) then you are free to get a searchwarrant.

If you hear contra and you aren't sure which apartment it came from, I'd say you can still get a warrant. Try to be polite and ask the owner of the property if you can have a look. If you have suspicions of illegal activity then I'd ask for a searchwarrant and perhaps even call for backup.
