Although I do think you'll need to provide some value. It might be worth releasing the latest update notes over the last few months with new features/fixes.
I also think it may be worth giving people some sort of incentive. For example, anyone that joins between now and Halloween gets a limited time cosmetic item that's not transferrable. Quite like Runescape!
