Not sure if I agree with the whole "we tried it once and it didn't work so I'm not trying again" vibe.
From what I've read around the forums about applications, it sounded like it worked to a certain extent, the community then is very different to the community now - why not give it a try?
Something needs to be done about the staff team as it is, and applications to replace some inactive admins sounds like a good idea imo.
Surely people aren't socially inept enough to see when someone is bumlicking them or not, it's pretty damn obvious to see really. So if you have a hard time weeding out people who are fake and bumlicking then you probably shouldn't be in a position of managing people, because you're gonna have a hard time.
People apply to jobs and it's a massive part of society, so tell me why it wouldn't work here? If someone is lying about themselves and personality it will show very quickly, as it does in job applications.
The sheer refusal to even consider it makes me wonder if it's more out of fear and resentment to stay in the old ways rather than trying something new
