Question requarding bases

Question
I notice players using the Storefront_Template001a_Bars.mdl (http://i.imgur.com/UOuCP.png) model all the time for their bases.

As many players know it becomes see through on one side and not on another when a solid material is applied to it (http://i.imgur.com/UkKUR.jpg); this fact makes it very good to use for bases. It also has convenient dimensions.. Its tall enough to completely cover a player. On its side a player can shoot over it with only their head showing.

My question is: Are players allowed to use this prop for basing; if so under what conditions?

I ask this because the rules do not specify *clearly* if this is allowed or not.

I read through the rules before I used this prop, the only one that may go against it is this base rule: "4. Barricades cannot be made so it is impossible for attackers to shoot you." Though it is quite possible to hit someone unless it was set up so they can't. Also because it is made of metal it causes a lot of ricochet, so I usually die from that.

I made 2 videos illustrating some pros and cons of the prop from a defender's perspective:
Pros: http://www.xfire.com/video/4f1872/
Cons: http://www.xfire.com/video/4f1875/

Any answer will be greatly appriciated! Cheese

Yes, you are allowed to use it in bases, for doors or walls, doesn't matter. It is bulletproof, so you cant shoot thru it with both sides.
When you make a base tho, don't forget to make one a fading door, with 1 keypad on each side Ofcourse. Smile

The Pros video just shows that you can use it for situations(defence) and Yes, you can Smile Its very useful in basing, good defence when you get raided aswell since its bulletproof and seethru on one side. Looking at the Cons Video, you can use Easy Presicision and push the prop a little bit into the floor so there is less cover, so when you crouch, your head is just covered so they can't hit you, then you should be able to shoot the crouched ones aswell.

If you have any other questions, please ask. Cheese

I believe that its perfectly fine to use the prop aslong as its not a complete doombase. The base you showed in the video would be considered a doombase, people on the outside cannot shoot in but you can return fire and hit them (against the rules). The prop, aslong as its used properly following the base rules, should be used without issue.

Would that include any base you can crouch behind a prop when getting fired at and then stand to fire back? Because in the video you can hit the people behind the prop; that is, when they stand.

Sort of on topic: Can someone define 'doombase'? I never seen it defined by an admin, or defined in the rules or FAQ. Is it just a term that means breaking base/door rules?

He doesn't mean the prop you can crouch behind, he means the fence without any keypads.

Therefore it breaks this rule:
4. Barricades cannot be made so it is impossible for attackers to shoot you.

If you made a covered wall instead of the fence with some keypads, it would be alright.

and Yes, Doomfort means a base in violation of the Base Rules.

Oh I see, I never made keypads in the video because it was a demonstration. It was to show the prop, not to be used in actuality.

Yeah, so if you make a base, you might wanna make a wall so you can only see them when they come thru the door with a keypad.
Its alot better Smile

Well here's the explanation of our lovely doom forts:

A doom fort is pretty much more looking like a castle. It has huge walls, doors, small peak holes where you can shoot from, traps, fading doors all over the place and most of the time they also has towers where the mingy snipers can shoot people from.

Especially the rules about making small peak holes is important since it is nearly impossible for a raider/policeman etc. to attack if you almost can't see your enemy but he can see you. You get the point.

Now this sounds totally unrealistic and "who would do that?" but before the "doom basing rule" a lot of people made fortresses like this. I remember I had one with 4 towers and a huge castle-look-a-like entrance Cheese

EDIT: http://fearlessrp.net/showthread.php?tid=6275 shows one of the smaller doom forts made in Tides.
