Crash to desktop when joining server.

It seems that whenever I try to join the server I crash to desktop with "hl2.exe has stopped working". Haven't had this problem before.
And yes, +r_hunkalloclightmaps is set to 0.
Specs:
AMD Phenom II x4 955 3,4GHz
AMD Radeon HD 6850
4GB RAM

Any ideas, except for reinstalling Gmod?

Try installing DirectX9.0c:

Restart your PC and boom, you can now boot Gmod (as far as that worked for me).

Nevermind, starting up evocity_v2d in signleplayer first did the trick.
Thanks for the help, though.

It turns out that starting up evocity in singleplayer first breaks keypads, and I can't install DX9 because I have a DX11 card.
What now?
Edit: It worked one time after a reinstall, then it stopped working again. Reinstalled again, still doesn't work.
I really need help with this.
