Down and out
#1
So, in the past, I've felt rather down and its caused me to spend a huge amount of time off school; not wanting to talk to anyone. The kind of thing that literally meant I spent 3 weeks just say at home. Doing nothing. Now I kinda fee like its happening again. Caused by the kind of people I'd called a "friend".

I really don't know what to do, and I really don't know how to cope so I figured I'd turn to FL. What do you do when you're feeling down... How do you cope with your feelings...

Hey man,
your not alone, I've had periods like this for other reasons so I understand ya Smile

For me the way I pushed though it was to be busy, like doing things to keep me occupied for as long as I could, although ofc it varies on who you are.

Have you tried speaking to someone at school? I did when I was like this and they always have someone who you can have a chat to and they'll be qualified unlike us!

Good luck with everything, and if you need to talk, you can PM me or add me on steam Smile

I play music. It's a rather nice stress reliever, and playing the music correct gives you a nice temporary high, in my opinion. I also try talking to those close to me, be it my family, close friends, or girl/boyfriend. If you really need someone to talk to that you can trust, you can PM me on the forums, or add me on steam, if you prefer talking over a stress reliever. I'm one to talk, or listen, to let someone vent if they need to.

Hope you feel better soon, Jam.

I just feel talking to school or people around me they'll just laugh or say I'm over reacting... Or if I talk to someone at my school and word gets round... I almost feel like I'm dumb for thinking like this :/

If a problem is bad enough to be in your situation, if they laugh or say you're overreacting, they're just being jerks, and you shouldn't listen to them. You're not dumb for thinking about it the way you are. You're reacting to it in a way that all people do. Maybe more, maybe less. If you're afraid to talk to someone at school about it, talk to one of your good friends on Steam/Skype, etc. They can help. And like I said, if you need to talk, I'll listen.

Best is not to isolate, try to talk to someone IRL or parents. Me being to long "isolated" makes me sad, going out to a few or one good friend and have some fun is the best way even if you don't want to. Everyone has those kind of periods, just try to get over it and make some communication. If you really can't I'd get someone who knows more of it than a gaming community with the moest under 18.

If your feeling down, depressed, anxiety is sort of taking over your everyday life than that can take a serious toll on your physical health as well as mental health. Here's some tips and things like that. Note - these are not my own tips but are tips of the UK Government and Health Service. But I use them in my capacity as a youth worker when I come across this.

Also don't hesitate to PM me man. I don't know you, but I'll be more than happy to talk things through with you Smile

BE MORE ACTIVE

Spoiler :
Don’t withdraw from life. Socialising can improve your mood. Keeping in touch with friends and family means you have someone to talk to when you feel low.
Take up some form of exercise. There's evidence that exercise can help lift your mood. If you haven’t exercised for a while, start gently by walking for 20 minutes every day.

FACE YOUR FEARS

Spoiler :
Don’t avoid the things you find difficult. When people feel low or anxious, they sometimes avoid talking to other people. Some people can lose their confidence about driving or travelling.
If this starts to happen, facing up to these situations will help them become easier.[/spolier]

HAVE A ROUTINE
[spoiler]
When people feel down, they can get into poor sleep patterns, staying up late and sleeping during the day. Try to get up at your normal time and stick to your routine as much as possible.
Not having a routine can affect your eating. You may stop cooking regular meals, eat snacks throughout the day instead or miss breakfast because you’re still in bed.

Trust me, if your school is even semi decent they'll care. They have a duty of care while you go there, and mental health is one of the things they will be able to help with
plus they work on confedentiality agreements, as long as you dont tell them your going to do something that could harm yourself or others then they can't say to anyone what you told them if you don't want them too
I've been told by my own best friend I was being stupid, so I know how that feels too. But in all seriousness you need to speak to someone. if you really feel like you cant talk to someone face to face there are websites that can help too, including offering people to speak with.

I agree with Barkles, try to book an appointment with your schools guidance counsellor (In my school there is a slip in ny journal that you fill out, rip out of the journal and put it uneer the counsellors door. Your best bet is to talk to someone, try your parent/s it might seem awkward but it will help. Being online such as PC gaming or going on Facebook probably wont help, as I sad your best bet is too just talk to someone Smile
