I see nothing wrong with having it but need to also let the user have access to hands too. Pretty sure you can switch while sitting

I love the idea of having it when seating, could make some really nice traffic stop builds.

I do agree a command to hide it would be nice. Maybe make it so only the crosshairs are shown and not the gun itself.
