Finally, I really do hope that this puts the message across that most players do want quality content and don't care so much about download speeds.
What I put for the final question was something like 'No, there shouldn't be any optional content that will leave players confused with errors. Instead I believe that lower resolution textures (256x256 (approx 80kb) or 512x512 (approx 185kb)) should be included for the initial download and players can go onto the forums and download the original resolution textures to replace them if they want to. This will keep all players happy, as the download times will remain fairly low and we still get the content.
