What happened to the server?

You'll never match that kind of energy and activity from back then, not now and perhaps never again, it's no ones fault, it's simply called moving on... the only hope FL and other similar communities have is a huge spike of activity in S&ndbox/Gmod 2.. which would require the whole gamemode to be made again from scratch, perhaps this is already in the works who knows, until then.. or not.

We've done a ton of research to alternatives over the past few years, we've never committed to any as we're unable to really create a unique or somewhat "FL like" experience on those platforms. We've looked into niche options like Onset and a few other games which never really took off. GTA RP has a very defined playstyle (essentially serious cityrp, usually always nopixel like) and a lot of competition within that space, it's very hard to do something new there without throwing a lot of time and money at it which we don't have. S&box isn't suitable for RP and it isn't much like gmod at all, it's much more like Roblox where you have individual games rather than a community running that game. It also is quite early in development and probably still at least a year out if not more. 

There isn't much point in us spending a lot of time and money in creating yet another generic server in whatever new platform is popular, we'd likely want to do something unique. That's also ignoring how we currently lack the resources to even commit to such as project even if we found the perfect platform and really wanted to do it. I don't think gmod is dead at all anyway, but cityRP is definitely less popular than it once was. It's not impossible to try maintain a foothold in that niche, just difficult. We're always able to look into something different within gmod, but we likely won't ever get off it - not by choice but that's simply the situation we're in.
