Hello guys, please do read this thread with an open mind and hopefully this will clarify some realities and also my intentions. I want to use this thread as a way to fully open up and as a sense of closure as well.
So it has not been a secret that there are players who just do not like gambling at all, and that is fine because you are entitled to preferences and opinions - no problem. However some people have decided to raise a complaint/concern to the team here on Fearless about the way I operate my Blackjack and as a result of this it has resulted in the termination of real card Blackjack - permanently.
I have done Poker/Blackjack/Casino RP since 2012 where the idea first came to me. It was something that I enjoyed in real life as I am extremely passionate about the casino industry and casino games in general, so to be able to bring that entertainment into Gmod was fantastic.
I already owned 6 decks of cards and a 'shoe' and decided to use this to conduct a Blackjack RP properly on the server because it was a way for me to be able to feel like a real croupier whilst entertaining others and giving players a chance to win in-game money which gives me great satisfaction. It also provides me with a fix (and saves me real money
).
The dice roll system did not exist when I first started using the shoe, this came in later but I decided to stick with the cards because it is just quite simply more real. But there is more to it than that, please do let me elaborate with a list of reasons why I believe real cards are better:
- The more decks the worse for the player (there are articles to support this statement), and dice roll simulates infinite decks
- Dice roll takes longer so rounds take a lot longer in general and the pace is staggered
- You cannot implement any bets or systems that involve suits of cards
- You cannot implement the 'face down' card and as a result no systems around that (such as insurance against an Ace)
- The flow of cards feels simulated with dice roll and less realistic because there is no shuffle involved
Now with all this in mind it is still important to remember that the game is still in the favour of the house. Luck plays a large part of the game still. There is an element of skill which can increase your edge by around 3% but it still sits slightly below 50/50.
Sadly a lot of players will win, keep playing, lose their profit and then feel sad, they then chase the profit back but lose more and then walk away down. At one point recently my players hit a wave of incredible luck and I was down $10 million in just 2 days. Hopefully this shows that I do not cheat, nor have any intention of cheating. If the players stopped they would be up a few million each. Unfortunately the nature of the beast meant that they kept playing and naturally, the longer you play the more you should expect to lose and the luck eventually ran out so they lost it.
All I do is try to make the experience as fun as possible and I use rules that gives the player pretty decent odds to make it is fair as I possibly could without making up rules that don't exist etc. In addition to that I even subtly told every player the best decision they could make when It came to your hand, whether you noticed that or not
I am very, very grateful that a lot of you appreciated my honesty and enjoyed this, but sadly some people just cannot physically grasp the reality of it and want to point the fingers at my legitimacy instead. I PROMISE you, you will lose just as much if not more with the dice roll and that what you have witnessed in the last 9 months of me doing this, is just 100% realistic gambling.
I have done everything I humanly can to make this real card thing work, from streaming cards, to explaining everything I do and why, but nevermind.
Thank you for those that have supported it, but it has come to an end now as per the team's final decision.
It is not to say that my casino will close all together at this stage but the real blackjack is no more.

UPDATE/EDIT:
Quick edit (rather than deleting original post), with the new /deck command which I am very, very pleased about by the way, the odds for the player can remain the same. It also keeps the possibility of side bets AND the possibility for other world-popular games such as 3 card poker for example. The only thing that will always remain gone is the pace and speed of the rounds, and that lovely sound of me shuffling cards haha.
Other than that I'll leave this post as a piece of history but also because part of it addresses some realities of gambling that people must keep in the back of their mind, for your own safety really.
