The Great War in 2077, Vault 101 closes its doors for the last time.

The Overseers role was meant to cultivate the isolationism, preventing anyone from leaving the shelter. He created the illusion that the outside world was an uninhabitable nuclear-ravaged wasteland with absolutely no hope of existence outside of the vault.

The overseer accomplished this successfully for many years by brainwashing the dwellers that the only hope of survival was within the vault. The first Vault 101 overseer died of natural causes in 2127, leaving one of you to continue the Vault experiment as the new Overseer.
