Please note that some of the textures are black, It is one of the addons I had on the server that caused it to do that.

I personally would like FL to have this map

It does look nice - I think the main thing the community cares about though is how FPS is on it.

Jack, saying that "v2d is better" isn't really a valid argument. I personally wouldn't mind v2d, just any map other than v5p will do.

I'm with both maps. They both are good/ look good.

v2d is better

OT: Lad you of all people know v2d is the nicest option you just don't want to go against what staff are getting but i get that don't worry wink.
For real, The reasons are already stated as to why FL CURRENTLY NEEDS V2D, I ain't repeating myself to people who seem incapable to read.

Correct, FL needs a map change. But I do have an opinion, do I not?

Like I said, I wouldn't mind v2d (if you couldn't read that...) it's just that, v5p isn't the choice and I'd rather have something that's optimised and looks good thus me liking both maps. Pinescity looks good and is optimised and v2d is optimised.

I fail to see any benefit in keeping the server on the map it is now.

If this has equal or better FPS than v2d I +support this becoming the new map if v2d isn't going to be.

RE: Should FL Change Map? - Joe Joe - 05-05-2018

Let us be realistic for a moment. No-one will be happy with any outcome, there is always a split. Some want V2D, some are happy with V5P and some want a new map, there will always be a diversity between the players and that is fine. However we must remember because you like it, it doesn't mean everyone will. If a map change was to be chosen it would need to be something fresh, something that is perfectly sized yet also has the things we love so much about our previous maps. Such as their size, optimisation, building locations, RP possibilities and more. Something too big spreads the players apart reducing interaction massively, however something too small means you are on a players lap every moment you play. There are plenty of issues with our current and previous maps and therefore if we were to get a different map it ought to be a new one entirely.

Now the problems with V2D. Let us remember this 'Nostalgia' map for its former glory however its former glory no longer lasts within the community, the map has been tried and tested plenty of times. The argument that nobody joined so it died is irrelevant. If the player base loved V2D as much as they pour their hearts out they would have brought it back when it last came back, and the excuse  that people just joined V5P doesn't hold either. We all know V2D had a possible potential to last the 1st day showed that, however after the first day the community chose the map that they felt suited them, so V2D ultimately left once again. The map itself has plenty of flaws too. V2D is quite an ugly map to say the least, areas such as Pool Street are very ugly and decrepit with the Motel looking like a dump. The map itself would also not work with StormFox so it would essentially be '2 steps forward, 1 step back'. V2D I also believe may be small but to make itself look bigger has unnecessarily long winding roads which do not assist in roleplay at all. A nostalgic map but not the most practical.

From what you read above I seem like the Satan of V2D, however believe me Im not. For its nostalgia its great, but that is about it. Believe me when I say this; V5P isn't perfect either. Out of all the maps I've played I have to admit that V5P has to be my favourite by far, more optimised than V33X/V4B1 and gave me the potentials that V2D didn't. However it is very large and only the shops on Shopping street really get used. Areas such as Syndicate and Minnesota are hardly used and most buildings lay abandoned. The map has a decent layout and has plenty of opportunities due to its size however interaction outside city borders is limited and many buildings lay empty. Quite a practical map but everything is to spread.

There are plenty of alternatives to this issue, there are certain maps out there than can solve the issue. A few I thought of were:
However these also have issues. PinesCity quite a nice map and could fit what we need it too I just believe that all the buildings are excessively large and therefore would need a few players to fill one at least. All the buildings are of very similar texture making them quite ugly. Downtown has to be my favourite of the bunch, Modern buildings and has a V2D/Littletown feel to it. However the roads are quite small and some of the buildings are quite useless. Last but not least Rockford, not the nicest looking map but has its use of excessively long roads and looks quite ugly where the tree line is.

I personally feel as the best option would be PinesCity or Downtown, both have issues however a map which combined the style and size of both would be perfect. However returning to previous maps such as V2D, V33X, V4B1 or anything similar is a step in the wrong direction.

Way I see it the minority right now are those who like the map that's currently on the live server, the second above that want v2d and the majority just want a map change to something better (fps wise, etc). I can guarantee 100% that the map currently on will be changed in the next few months cause if not everyone is gonna get sick of FL and all the problems the current map brings on.

Apart from that I really couldn't have said it better, it's either we have an entirly new map or no new map at all.

RE: Should FL Change Map? - Fultz - 05-05-2018

From everything I am gathering from this thread, the main thing I am seeing just about everyone is in favor of a map change. The question goes to what map.

The reason v2d is in such high want is because we have had it before, its reliable, and we know what we are getting out of it. Could we do a new map? Absolutely. But that is more of a mystery than anything.

This is what I propose we do.

1. Get a list of maps that meet the requirements for FL (place for cars, villas, lake) Lets get say 5 maps
2. Make it an event. Set up each map in a simple beta style so no need to do locations/buildings/etc. Run the event server on each map that we list up.
3. After running all the maps for a couple hours or a day, then do a vote on which map the community wants. Do the voting on a 1-5 basis instead of one vote.

Just do that. Or if you guys dont want to put the work into setting up each map, do just what number 3 says. That style of voting is going to be the most accurate for what everyone wants.

RE: Should FL Change Map? - TheSiphon - 05-05-2018

Personally, I would highly hope for a non-v2d map and perhaps even something new. PinesCity would be an amazing map for the server, though a bit big, but still an amazing map.
But at least there is a map that could work as a compromise if we decide to go back to V2D.

Anyways...

The map is called rp_evocity_sexy_v3. Despite the interesting name, it is a valid updated version of the standard V2D visually and also by adding new areas and tweaking older ones.

Not saying that I wish for a V2D map, but posting this to tell that there is an alternative version of the V2D map, so we don't have to use the old outdated one if there is a map change.
