Try, right clicking on: Computer > Properties > Should be somewhere their.

I used to get dreadful lag when i shot even a pistol, its because i think the server uses a weapons pack thats more realistic with the muzzle flash which takes quite abit of ram theres not much you can do realy apart from upgrade your computer. if not then i'm not sure because garrys mod has been updated so much times since i had an old computer.
tweek with your settings till it works and get the latest driver for your CPU and graphics card.
