I know where you're coming from, and I don't believe you ever lived in America before and I don't think you will. But as someone who resided in the US since 2017 and constantly travel back and forth to Israel. So obviously I have more of a say than you ever will, and I can tell you that sometimes I do feel like it is a big rich third world country, I mean the health care, especially mental health care... Not to mention ignorance, education, the politics, the beliefs, the police, poverty, college tutions, increasing anti vaxxers, Fox News, I can complain everything for hours about this country.

But I travelled to Mexico recently.
You wanna know what I saw? What I experienced in a real third world country?
First of all there's no pedestrian lights, ninguno. They have 3-4 small BARELY visible lanes for a road, and to cross it you have to run sometimes, because Mexicans won't stop for you, if for some reason you're in the road for too long simply by walking, they will stop at the last second where being a star in a gore website is seconds away. And keep in mind this is in a very well established neighborhood, in Cancun. Middle class neighborhoods look like terrible, lack of infrastructures, sanitary is awful and people look like they're poor to our standards.
Salaries, if you earn $700 a month, then you're a banker or any highly regarded profession. LADIES WANT YOU. You're financially secure at $700 a month in Mexico. But you can make three times that amount as a waiter or a sales associate in Israel or in the US, travel to Mexico and live like a KING. Forget the average woman, you're now attracting the attention of high class, physically attractive women. The average women know their place, they stand no chance if you don't find them attractive. Waiters in the West make more than what Mexican doctors or lawyers make.

Poor neighborhoods, they look like something out of an NGO documentary, god I never felt so privilege in my life before. I saw a lady selling chicken in the street on a wooden cart, she fucking took the feathers off with her hand then proceeds to chop the head off, on that bloody cart, and sell it like that on the street. It's a good business, she had customers in line for her chicken. Stray ill dogs everywhere, they had weird shit on their body and a lot of saliva drop out of their month. Houses completed with pallets. And 4 mintes away of drive when you exit there's a GoMart by the road, basically a gas station store with the standards of a QT store. All I thought was how probably expensive it is for those people, how clean it is in comparison to their neighborhood. My dark sense of humor led me to joke about how a family from that neighborhood celebrate their kid's birthday and how rewarding it is to walk there on foot like you're on a pilgrimage to Mecca.

Driving in Mexico keeps me on adrenaline and hyper vigilant, drivers rarely use their tail blinks, they turn right without waiting for you to first drive straight through the road, drivers are maniacs is all I can say but in fairness to them it's because the traffic system and roads are bad as they are.

Young moms everywhere, the youngest you will hear about are 12 year olds, rare but cases of it is enough to make moms scared. 16 year old moms aren't shocking.

Eat at the wrong place and your toilet will hate you.

Corruption is fucking awful, the police are actively hunting foreigners to stop you for bribes of 200 pesos, they will come up with lies if they have to and take you to the station. You do not talk about cartels, you stay silent. They hold a lot of power, they own the police, judges, night clubs, casinos, prostitutes, high class restaurants, hotels, anywhere that has money and law involved, they're in it. And people love them, because they're actually the ones that pay for infrastructures, fund police, contribute to their cities and communities, do a lot of donation. They're not doing it for the good of the people, they just need to spend to launder their money and for the PR, they're winning hearts and minds. So in a sense they do more than the government and actually help the people in a way, but if you stand in their way, you will disappear and have your face in a missing person list along with tens of thousands of other faces.

This is a third world country, located just to the south of the US. America isn't perfect but holy shit it's so safe and there's a sense of order and security. And I can tell you that Americans are a lot more civilized and cultured than Mexicans.

Despite all of the cons of Mexico and the shitholes I've been to there, it's a beautiful country with sentimental, good people, with some of the best food in the world. Mexicans are friendly and adorable. They know how to make the best out of life and stay happy with what they have. It's just sad they're living in that reality, in their world, it's different than ours.

Just have some street smarts and don't get screwed over, because being gulliable and naive will fuck you up. All I can say is if they say it's 100 pesos or 200 pesos on the streets, they're ripping you off. 400+ pesos, they're disrespecting your intelligence. Also, be careful and extremely vigiliant at nights and don't take any cab, I heard of taxi drivers taking you to the middle of nowhere and ask for this amount of money or you're being dropped there. To be safe, get a car. To sum it up, imagine Mexico was Glasgow having a large tropical country.
