Part 1: Introduction

Do you find it frustrating that Administrators don't get to your @ call quick enough? Is it a case that no Administrator is online? Tired of being in a position where the logs cannot provide enough evidence to ban/blacklist the person? Want to be able to record your Roleplays?

If so, follow this guide and you will be on your way to giving rule-breakers what they deserve, and all your recording needs.

The Recording Software I will be guiding you through is called Open Broadcaster Software or OBS for short. This software is mostly used for Streaming on services such as Twitch, but can also be used for general recording and saving. It is available for Windows 7+, MacOSX 10.8.5+ and Linux.

The rest of this guide will show you how to Install OBS, how to set it up.

Part 3: Setup

Now that you have OBS open, you want to configure it.

The first step is to configure the program to allow it to record sounds coming from your computer.
Once OBS has opened, click 'File' > 'Settings' > 'Audio'.
Set the Desktop Audio Device to your Speakers/Sound Card that is on your computer as shown below.

Sometimes, setting up your microphone can be useful too. To do this, set your 'Mic/Auxillary Audio Device' to your microphone, as shown:

The next step is setting the file where you want your videos to save to, and in what format.
To do this, go to 'File' > 'Settings' > 'Output'.
Once in this tab, set your 'Recording Path' to your designated video save folder. This keeps your videos nice and organised.
Dependant on what Operating System you are using (MacOS, Windows etc), I find that .MP4 is the best file type to use, as I find it pretty reliable when uploading to YouTube.
As you will see in the screenshot below, there is also an option to change the quality of the recording, however, this will increase the size of the file and take up more room on your hard-drive.

You are now pretty much ready to go, all you need to do is set what you want to be recorded. OBS allows you to record individual windows, your whole desktop, or full-screen applications (such as GMOD).

On the main screen, this is what you should see:

On the bottom left is a small window titled 'Scenes'. Click the '+' to add a new scene and re-name it how you wish.

Next to the 'Scenes' window is a 'Sources' window. Click the '+' to add a source. Once you do this, you will be prompted with a list. If you want to record your whole desktop (Fullscreen game and normal desktop applications such as your internet browser, etc) then click 'Display Capture'. If you only want to record your game, then click 'Game Capture'.

To start recording, simply click 'Start Recording' on the right hand-side.

EDIT: I personally use 'Display Capture' as it has little effect on my FPS than when I use 'Game Capture'.
Kind Regards,
