Pretty sure they're given based on the amount of posts and your rank. I think donators can get a max of 4 or 5.

from what i remember 1000 posts gives you 5 starts, no clue about how many you need for 2, 3 and 4 stars though

Or join the team! Contributors and TAs get 5 stars, Developers and Admins get 6, SAs get 7 and Soul gets them all.
