Numpad Voice Commands - Ms. Mudpie - 01-11-2011

Numpad Voice Commands tutorial!
So you need to direct your team, but your mic's broken and you're rubbish at typing at any kind of speed. Your team falls into chaos, with people doing their own thing and walking off, oblivious to anything that has just happened. You tried downloading an addon which brings up a bind menu, but you can't use it in the server. Have no fear! I'm here to remedy this problem.

This is what I call the Numpad Voice Commands! (or NVC for lazy people).

First of all, here is your Numpad:

It can be found at the right-hand side of your keyboard, underneath the Print-Screen key. The Numpad isn't used very often in games, and Garry's Mod - or any other Source game - doesn't require the Numpad. This means you can use it any way you like!

Now, you'll need to enable the Developer console. I will assume you have done this already. Here are the numpad key names you need to use:

So say I want to bind the number eight on the Numpad so when I press it, I will yell "Go! Go! Go!". I will type in:
Code:
bind kp_uparrow "say /y Go! Go! Go!"

You can bind these keys to anything - they don't even have to be voice commands! You can use them to bind unholstering weapons, dropping vehicles or, for admins, certain admin commands. I've reserved them for voice commands, so leading is easier (people love me being the Police Commander).

Here are a few examples:
Code:
bind kp_5 "say Thanks, mate!"
bind kp_downarrow "say Stay here and secure this area."
bind kp_pgup "say Nice work, you bunch of pathetic panzers!"
bind kp_leftarrow "say /y Head left!"

Hope this helps!

Awesome! This could be useful for people.

And how does it effect fading doors and cameras?

RE: Numpad Voice Commands - Ms. Mudpie - 01-11-2011

By using keys you haven't bound. The symbols.

Plus, I don't use cameras and fading doors.

How do you bind a key so that you can drag unconscious people?

RE: Numpad Voice Commands - Ms. Mudpie - 01-11-2011

Code:
bind <key> <_lift>

Isn't it _lift?

Is that "say _lift" or just "_lift"?

I assume it's the former.

RE: Numpad Voice Commands - Elmo - 01-12-2011

I believe it's just _lift
