Why do BBCode tags add to the amount of characters in a post?

He means how many letters you can have in a post is affected by tags such as [b]

If the amount of characters in your signature is really close to reaching the character limit-
Assuming the limit is 225 characters and your sig contains 224.
Adding [b][/b] tags increases the character limit to 261, when it shouldn't.

I can't fix it, but if I make the limit to 250 characters, than there is some space for the ubb tags.
