Emperor (Huang Di) (1/1) - Z.A.S.Enforcer A superlative title held by Monarchs of China who rule various imperial regimes in Chinese history, in traditional Chinese political theory, the emperor was considered the son of Heaven & the autocrat of all under heaven. Came with variety of governing duties and moral obligations; failure to uphold these was thought to remove the dynasty’s Mandate of Heaven and to justify its overthrow. Emperor’s orders were to be obeyed immediately, elevated above all commoners, nobility and members of the imperial family. Addresses to the emperor were always to be formal & self-deprecatory even by closest family members. Empress (HuangHou) (1/1) - Jessixa The official spouse of the emperor usually was chosen by the precedent Emperor & his advisors, not the emperor himself; the choice was made on the basis of political & economic advantages. The empress didn’t have any decisional power regarding the state affair, but as the Head of the Inner Palace, she would dictate the rules of life in the Palace and have a prominent role above the other Emperor’s wives, the royal concubines. In China, traditionally resembled marriage in that concubines were recognized sexual partners of a man and were expected to bear children for him, unofficial concubines (Bi Qie) were lower status and their children were considered illegitimate. The position of the concubine was generally interior to that of the wife. Although they could produce heirs, their children would be interior in social status to a wife’s children,although they were of higher status than illegitimate children, the child of a concubine had to show filial duty to 2 women, their biological mother and their legal mother. They had developed strong medical ethics to discourage anyone from practicing medicine without proper knowledge. Most importantly, they began to share knowledge with each other. Many merchants became rich by selling goods (such as food, weapons and sometimes illegal goods) and it angered some scholars and nobles who wanted them to act and behave and live in a lowly fashion.
